Domino Effect

.

In Abkhazia, a post-Soviet “frozen conflict” zone, patriotism runs deep. While Sports Minister Rafael is busy organizing an international domino event to put his motherland on the world’s map, his beloved Russian wife is just an unwelcome foreigner. A black sea black comedy with socio-political commentary.

Press

  • This film challenges how to live together, focused on a Russian artist and the Abhkazian Minister for Sport. Their relationship mirrors local social and political tensions. Involved in reconstructing Abhkazia and their love, Natasha and Rafael open trails for an intercultural dialog.
    Jury @ Visions du Réel
  • Rarely were a personal relationship drama and a political-military conflict conveyed in such an intelligent, captivating and cinematically coherent manner.
    Neue Zürcher Zeitung
  • ...For a compelling tale about how difficult history may be. Both the history of Abkhazia and the story of love.
