FLEE tells the story of Amin Nawabi as he grapples with a painful secret he has kept hidden for 20 years, one that threatens to derail the life he has built for himself and his soon to be husband. Recounted mostly through animation to director Jonas Poher Rasmussen, he tells for the first time the story of his extraordinary journey as a child refugee from Afghanistan.

Press

  • THE GUARDIAN
Remarkable refugee story told with heart and audacity.
Flee is a remarkably humanizing and complex film, expanding and expounding the kind of story that’s too easily simplified.
    Benjamin Lee
  • INDIE WIRE
“Flee” made news ahead of its Sundance premiere when news broke that Riz Ahmed and Nikolaj Coster-Waldau were boarding the project as executive producers and to lend their voices for the movie’s English-language dub.
    Zack Sharf
  • INDIE WIRE
There have been countless movies about the immigration crisis, but none of them have the sheer ingenuity of “Flee”.
    Eric Kohn
  • FILMMAKERMAGAZINE
Flee, at its heart, is about how constantly having to flee our situation can affect us in our day to day lives and relationships.
    Art Director Jess Nicholls
  • HOLLYWOOD REPORTER
Although the interviews function almost like therapy, there's nothing didactic here, nothing clinical or overly analytical. Instead, there's a kind of spontaneous purity to the storytelling, built on the empathetic connection established between the filmmaker and his subject.
    David Rooney
