Nick Read

Nick Read is a British filmmaker and director of photography, based in London, renowned for creating impactful observational documentaries in challenging and high-risk environments.

With a background in camerawork since 1990, Nick has directed and filmed numerous award-winning documentaries across over 60 countries, working with both British and American broadcasters.

His notable films include Inside Israel’s Jails, Slumdog Children of Mumbai, The Condemned, and a recent feature documentary, Bolshoi Babylon, produced by Simon Chinn, which premiered at the Toronto Film Festival and was long-listed for both BAFTA and Academy Awards.

Nick’s work, defined by a strong emotional appeal, storytelling finesse, and a unique visual style, has earned him prestigious accolades, including two Foreign Press Association Awards, the Rory Peck Impact Award, and the Creative Diversity Award for best documentary.

He is a three-time BAFTA finalist for best director and cinematography, an EMMY nominee, and a full member of BAFTA and Directors UK.
